Four Months

When your baby begins to express an interest in food and is able to sit up with support, begin solids by feeding your baby small amounts of baby cereal, preferably rice (the most allergenic)

Four Months

Pour one tablespoon of baby cereal into a bowl, and add either breastmilk or formula until the cereal is thinned. Use the smallest baby spoon you can find to gently spoon the cereal into baby's mouth. Keep in mind that the first few times, very little cereal will actually make it into your baby's mouth. Most babies begin the process of spoon-feeding by pushing the food back out of their mouths; before they grow adjusted to eating from a spoon, the tongue reflex forces the food back out of the mouth. Let your baby grow accustomed to the act of eating before adding any more tablespoons of cereal. Also make sure that your baby's delicate tummy can handle the first serving of cereal before adding it regularly to your baby's diet. Some babies experience either reflux or constipation. If your baby experiences a bout of constipation after eating cereal, give your baby 2 ounces of warm water to get things moving again.
