Once your baby has grown comfortable with cereal, it is time to begin pureed fruits and vegetables. Some people recommend starting with vegetables so that baby does not grow to prefer the natural sweetness of fruit, but you can begin with either. Select stage 1 jars (the tiniest ones), and try only a few spoonfuls at a time. Serve your baby the same food for at least two days to ensure that there is no allergic reaction before beginning a new food.
Meats: Wait until your baby is at least seven or eight months of age before beginning tougher protein sources such as chicken, beef, turkey, and lamb. Select pureed meats and try them one at a time as recommended above. Other great protein sources include beans (mashed), egg yolk, and yogurt. Ask your pediatrician before feeding your baby any source of dairy such as cheese or yogurt; most doctors recommend waiting until your baby is one year of age before offering him or her any dairy foods.
