How Much Sleep Is Needed?

1-15 days old  16-22 hours

How Much Sleep Is Needed?
  1. The first thing to consider before you assume your baby won't sleep well is to analyze how much sleep your baby actually IS getting
  2. Most babies do not sleep through the night until they have doubled their birthweight, which can occur somewhere between three to five months of age. Some babies take naturally months longer to sleep through the night. If you want to make sure that your baby is getting enough sleep throughout a 24 hour period, consider the average amounts of sleep listed below, and see where your baby falls on a typical day.

3 weeks  16-18 hours

6 weeks  16 hours

4-6 months  14-16 hours

9 months  12-15 hours

The total hours listed above include naps as well as night sleeping. Keep in mind that these averages are only guidelines
