Reindeer Reins

Be sure to have your earmuffs ready before you begin this kid holiday craft

Reindeer Reins

You're probably going to hear lots of jingling throughout the house. You'll need

1 skein of red yarn

9 - 3' x 5' pieces of green construction paper (index cards can be used)

18 small bells

Singe-hole punch

Colored Markers

Begin by helping your child write each name of one of Santa's reindeer on a piece of the 3' x 5' construction paper. Legend tells us that Santa's sleigh is pulled by eight reindeer, but we all know he has a total of nine reindeer once that brawny buck with the red nose is hitched at the front of the pack.

Once your child has written the nine nameplates…you did remember all of them…let's see Dasher-Dancer-Prancer-Vixen-Comet-Cupic-Donner-Blitzen and Rudolph, of course, help him punch holes in the opposite sides of each nameplate. You've completed the first step of this simple kid holiday craft.

Cut nine 12-inch pieces of yarn for your child. Tie a knot in the middle of the yarn and then a bow where the knot is tied. Nothing fancy here, just a regular shoe-tying type of knot and bow work great. If your child isn't able to tie his shoes just yet, offer your assistance. This kid holiday craft should be fun, not a chore.

Then show him how to thread one end of the yarn through the base of the bell so that it meets the bow in the middle. He'll probably be able to do the other side himself..there now, the first piece of yarn has two bells strung on it. Once the bows are tied in the other pieces of yarn, he can string a bell on both sides of each bow. He has completed the second step of his kid holiday craft.

It's time to gather the nameplates and begin threading the ends of the yarn through the holes you punched earlier. Place one end of each piece of yarn through a hole in the nameplate with the reindeer name facing upwards. After you've threaded the yarn through the nameplate on each side of it, move the nameplate and tie the ends of the yarn into another bow. In no time at all, your child has completed this easy kid holiday craft.

This jolly-sounding kid holiday craft makes a cute doorknob decoration. Your child will enjoy hearing his Reindeer Reins jingling throughout the house. Each time he hears the jingling bells, he'll be reminded that you made special time for him to do a kid holiday craft of his very own.
